Teachers and researchers
The Centre des monuments nationaux develops and implements a wide range of educational activities across its monuments for teachers and pupils, from preschool to higher education.
Presentation
National monuments reflect the diversity and richness of France's heritage from all periods (from prehistory to the 20th century): abbeys, castles, prehistoric caves, archaeological sites, memorial sites, etc.
They are ideal places and resources for artistic and cultural education.
In line with the official programmes of the French Ministry of Education, the Centre des monuments nationaux develops and implements a wide range of educational activities for teachers and their pupils, from nursery school to higher education.

Partnerships
As part of its artistic and cultural education initiatives, the Centre des monuments nationaux has set up a number of projects and partnerships:
Discovering arts and crafts
The "À la découverte des Métiers d'Art" event is run by the Institut National des Métiers d'Art and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, in partnership with several cultural establishments (the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Musée et la Manufacture de Sèvres, the Monnaie de Paris and the Centre des monuments nationaux), and with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of National Education and Youth and the Ile-de-France academy region.
The "À la découverte des métiers d'art" programme is an invitation to discover the decorative arts and arts and crafts. It is aimed at secondary school pupils in 4ème and 3ème classes, and is divided into three stages: a tour, a meeting with a craftsman and a presentation of training courses.
Children of heritage
On an exceptional day, the day before the European Heritage Days, the CAUE - Councils for Architecture, Town Planning and the Environment - together with their partners, are offering pupils and their teachers from nursery school to secondary school a programme of activities tailored to young people: Children of Heritage.
On this day, several monuments open their doors so that pupils can discover the heritage of their region free of charge, offering visits and workshops.
"From one monument to another": one site, one writer
As part of its artistic and cultural education initiatives, the Centre des monuments nationaux, in partnership with the Maison des Écrivains et de la Littérature, has been offering "D'un monument, l'autre": one site, one writer since 2018.
Around ten writers are invited to write original texts inspired by a monument in the network. These works are then shared with secondary school pupils, during a meeting with the author on the sites or in the schools. The pupils are in turn invited to take part in their discovery of the monument through readings, debates, discussions, lectures, lessons, writing workshops (or any other type of intervention) in the company of the writer.
Research at the CMN
The Centre des monuments nationaux is committed to research and wishes to take part in it.
On 5 and 7 May 2025, don't miss the conference "Bringing monuments to life, thinking about public experiences". Co-organised with the GIS Études touristiques, in partnership with theESTHUA national tourism institute and theUniversité catholique de l'Ouest, the conference aims to bring together research into the experiences of monument visitors.
