Social sector groups

Groups and intermediaries from the social, medico-social, health and legal fields take part in the life of all the sites of the Centre des Monuments Nationaux thanks to dedicated programming and actions.

Presentation

The Centre des monuments nationaux has made theopening up and appropriation of the network's sitesby all audiences a priority of its cultural policy, particularly for people who are far from cultural venues for socio-economic reasons, for language reasons or who are unfamiliar with the institutions.

To achieve this, the Centre des Monuments Nationaux is developing initiatives aimed at the social, medico-social, legal and health sectors, to work with intermediaries and the public as closely as possible to the needs and desires of each individual, and to co-construct appropriate projects.

We provide support to relays and the public before, during and after their visit to the monument, thanks to the presence of special contacts on the sites, awareness-raising and resources to help them prepare, and activities adapted to help them discover the monument and its heritage in a special way.

As a member of the Mission Vivre-Ensemble, the Centre des Monuments Nationaux implements the Charte d'accueil des publics du champ social at all the sites in the network.

Visits and activities

The Centre des Monuments Nationaux works throughout the year in all the monuments in its network to reach out to the so-called "remote" public and their intermediaries. In each monument, this policy is implemented through :

  • Dedicated contacts in the monuments to answer your questions and work with you to develop tailor-made visit projects;
  • Educational resources and awareness-raising visits for relays so that you can meet the team, find out about the programme and possible activities, and prepare your visit;
  • Visits and workshops tailored to the needs and desires of the relays and the public:
    • Self-guided tours
    • Themed guided tours
    • Remote guided tours
    • Heritage workshops
  • Tailor-made projects co-constructed by the monument's visitor services team and the relays to develop an action over time.

Remote guided tours

Remote guided tours are currently on offer at 21 of the network's monuments, giving visitors the chance to explore the sites using videoconferencing tools, accompanied by an interpreter - and all from the comfort of your own home! A remote visit is a first approach to the monument, to introduce the site to the relays and participants of a future visit, to get your bearings and reassure you about the forthcoming outing. It's also a way of discovering heritage sites for people who are geographically distant from them, or who are in a position to do so.

The projects

The Centre des Monuments Nationaux offers players in the social, medico-social, health and legal fields the chance to work together on projects that use cultural action to achieve common goals and get everyone involved in the life of our heritage.

In the monuments, the mediation teams are available to work with you to devise tailor-made projects. On a national scale, a number of large-scale projects are being rolled out across several sites to broaden the range of ways in which the public can be involved.

Partnerships

The Centre des monuments nationaux has a strong partnership policy, with seven agreements signed at national level with players in the field of associations, solidarity and popular education. The aim is to foster links between the monuments, the local structures in these networks and their visitors.

The nine partners of the Centre des monuments nationaux are :

  • Habitat et Humanisme : The national federation Habitat et Humanisme and the Centre des monuments nationaux are developing a variety of projects to enable the people supported by the federation's various branches (departmental associations, emergency branch, care centre) to play a full part in the network's monuments.
  • Cultures du Coeur: By developing projects with a large number of the 37 local Cultures du Coeur associations, the Centre des monuments nationaux is helping to run a network of local social partners.
  • Le Mouvement des Régies: Supported residents and employees of neighbourhood and regional regies benefit from a special welcome in the network's monuments. The Centre des monuments nationaux also supports the development of exchanges of practice with professionals from the Mouvement des Régies.
  • Secours Populaire Français: The Centre des monuments nationaux supports the Secours Populaire Français in its efforts to provide access to outings and leisure activities by opening its sites to all its beneficiaries and volunteers. The network also takes part in national operations such as the Journées des Oubliés des Vacances (Days of the Forgotten Holidaymakers) and the Pères Noëls verts (Green Father Christmas).
  • Les Francas: The Centre des monuments nationaux works alongside Les Francas in popular education projects for children and young people. This collaboration is illustrated in particular by the actions co-created as part of C'est mon patrimoine !
  • Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris: working with the AP-HP, the Centre des Monuments is running a programme of cultural activities designed to help patients in hospital or in home care to discover their heritage.
  • The Groupe SOS Culture: in collaboration with Droit27 (ex-Laboratoire des publics), this partnership aims to strengthen the inter-network links between the Centre des monuments nationaux and the social, medico-social and health structures of the Groupe SOS throughout France.
  • Les Restos du Coeur: the organisation of cultural outings for people in precarious situations supported by its departmental associations is an essential social action for the Restos du Coeur. The Centre des monuments nationaux contributes to this action by facilitating the organisation of these outings at its sites.
  • The Direction de l'administration pénitentiaire: this partnership is part of the dynamic of the protocol renewed in 2022 between the Ministries of Culture and Justice. Its aim is to encourage the use of monuments by prisoners, as part of the socio-cultural activities offered to them in detention and in the community.
  • France Alzheimer Paris: the Centre des Monuments Nationaux contributes to the Art, Culture et Alzheimer programme run by the Parisian association of France Alzheimer, offering cultural outings in the monuments as well as discoveries from a distance.

If you belong to one of these networks, contact us to find out how we can work together!

A special partnership: the three-way partnership between the Centre des monuments nationaux, the Directorate for Integration and Access to Nationality of the Ministry of the Interior and the French Office for Immigration and Integration.

Signed in July 2022, this partnership aims to promote the appropriation of the heritage of national monuments by first-time immigrants who have signed a Republican Integration Contract. The monuments are opened up to groups during the civic and language training courses offered as part of the CIR, or individually once the contract has been signed, in order to support the integration process of the target groups.

In 2023, the partnership was extended to all adults taking part in "Opening Schools to Parents for Children's Success" (OEPRE) workshops, a scheme run by the Ministry of the Interior alongside the French Ministry of Education.

If you work with people who are signatories to the CIR or coordinate an OEPRE workshop, contact us to find out more about this partnership and the possibilities of working with monuments!

The tools

Our teams have developed a range of tools to help visitors of all ages prepare for their visit.

Educational packs, visit booklets or booklets in FALC... the monuments offer tools adapted to their itineraries and content, which can be found on the monument sites or by contacting the relevant contacts at your disposal.

-> A specific tool at your disposal: the "Pictorial Glossary of Monument Words"!

Conceived and designed in collaboration with Doc en Stock and the network of Centres de Ressources Illettrisme et Analphabétisme, this glossary is aimed at people learning French and their trainers and coaches.

For each of the hundred or so words taken from the vocabularies of heritage, architecture and visits, a definition in easy French explains the term and a photograph from the iconographic database of the Centre des monuments nationaux illustrates it.

It can be downloaded here in PDF format. It can be used before an outing to prepare vocabulary, during a visit to support understanding or afterwards to look back on the experience, share your feelings and broaden the discussion.

The "Glossaire imagé des mots des monuments" is part of a kit of resources developed by the CMN and Doc en Stock, available online on the platform, to help answer the question "Comment préparer une sortie culturelle avec des apprenants en français?" (How to prepare a cultural outing with learners of French).
