The monuments house numerous cultural artefacts catalogued by the collections inventory and record-keeping department. Take a closer look with the Collectio database!
76 sites managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux house collections. This represents 169,000 cultural artefacts! Of these, more than 12,300 are listed as Historic Monuments, ranging from the fine arts to contemporary art, including the natural sciences and ethnology.
Within theprogramming department of the Directorate for the Conservation of Monuments and Collections, the Collections Inventory and Reconciliation Unit is responsiblefor establishing the ownership status of cultural artefacts, as well as for studying, cataloguing, reconciling, managing and promoting the collections.
Did you know? Inventory involves recording an item in a register of documents within a collection. At the same time, the reconciliation process aims to verify and, where necessary, regularly update the data relating to the works.

The Collectio database is a tool for cataloguing and managing the collections held within the network of national monuments. Inventories of movable objects are entered into the database during on-site inventory or verification campaigns.
Collectio provides the collections inventory and reconciliation unit, as well as all staff at the organisation, with a sustainable and coherent information system enabling the management and conservation of cultural assets in collaboration with the monuments, whilst ensuring access to inventory data.
Based on the Collectio inventory database, a dedicated website for the collections of certain monuments is available for consultation by the public and researchers.
