THE INSTITUTION'S MISSIONS
Conserve, restore and maintain the monuments and collections under its responsibility by conducting operations aimed at preventing their degradation and extending their length of life, under the scientific and technical supervision of the departments of the Ministry of culture and communication.
Open to visitors and run nearly 100 national monuments belonging to the State and distributed throughout whole country: the abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel, the Château d'Angers and the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau, the castle and ramparts of Carcassonne, the Arc de Triomphe and the Sainte-Chapelle, to but name a few. The CMN aims to make these monuments accessible to the greatest number of people, particularly from priority groups (living far away from institutional culture or with disabilities), and to contribute to the artistic and cultural education policy, in particular by receiving many school audiences.
Promote the participation of national monuments in cultural life and the development of tourism with nearly 400 events a year, in consultation with the regional cultural departments, local authorities and cultural institution networks.
Ensure a mission of public publisher under the Éditions du Patrimoine brand and thus greatly contribute to the awareness and promotion of French national heritage by publishing tour guides, illustrated books - photographic works and popular works - monographs of architects or buildings, theoretical, technical or scientific texts, children's books, books for the blind and visually impaired and the deaf and hearing impaired.
