The Arc de Triomphe becomes more accessible

10 September 2017 Chantier

Work to improve accessibility and the experience of visiting the Arc de Triomphe is currently being undertaken.

The breathtaking view of Paris can still be enjoyed while the work is being carried out!

Project presentation

This work will be completed in June 2018. It will improve the monument’s amenity and accessibility conditions. There are several objectives:

- Allow all visitors to access the terrace. The lift being installed between the Museum Hall and the terrace will bypass the 40 steps that prevent those with reduced mobility from enjoying the terrace. Ramps will also be installed to even out the various levels on the terrace so that everyone can enjoy the panoramic view, even in a wheelchair.

- Improve the bathroom facilities.

- Enhance safety conditions by installing an additional staircase in the last pillar available in the north-west of the monument. The new staircase will provide access to a meeting room which school groups will be able to use so they can be introduced to the monument and its history.

The work is organised so that the monument  can still be visited by cordoning off the work areas and working in phases. The Centre des Monuments Nationaux teams make every effort to ensure you're welcomed in the best conditions for your visit which remains an unmissable part of any trip to Paris.

Enjoy your visit!
