THE DOCUMENT COLLECTION AND THE DEPARTMENT

The documentation-libraries division of the Centre des monuments nationaux manages a document collection consisting mainly of a study library with nearly 15,000 books and one hundred periodicals (including forty subscriptions) as well as about a hundred documentary dossiers on each of the monuments managed by the establishment and associated topics. In addition to the specific bibliography relating to the monuments and sites that the Centre des monuments nationaux preserves and opens to visitors, the library covers all areas associated with knowledge about national monuments and their collections: History, Architecture, Fine Arts, Decorative Arts, Monumental and cultural heritage, Gardens, Museums and Collections, Cultural Policies, etc.

A collection of old works from the 17th to the 19th century, constituting the storeroom of the library, enriches study possibilities.

A newly created Iconographic Cabinet completes these resources and ensures the preservation of heritage documents. Intended for agents of the establishment, the library is also open to researchers (access by appointment and proof of research).

REFERENCE DOCUMENT PORTAL

This portal provides a catalogue of the library and the various documents available for consultation in the documentation library of the Hôtel de Sully.

The Reference portal is also gradually being enriched by the catalogue of the documentary libraries of the monuments (libraries of the Château d'’Angers and the Pantheon can already be consulted). Lastly, the Reference portal mentions numerous articles on the history, architecture, decoration or collections of monuments.
