In the garden of the Abbey of Beaulieu-en-Rouergue
The Abbey of Beaulieu-en-Rouergue is beginning its transformation. By 2022, you will be able to admire the large collection of modern art bequeathed by Pierre Brache and Geneviève Bonnefoi, stroll in its landscaped park and be intoxicated by the wonderful scents of the future rose garden.
During the 1960s Pierre Brache and Geneviève Bonnefoi saved the Abbey from ruin, and laid out numerous flowerbeds including the rose garden which Geneviève was so fond of, and which occupied a central place.
In order to put the final touches to their work, the future rose garden of the Abbey of Beaulieu will follow the principles of one of the greatest rose growers of the 20th century, whose work they admired: André Eve (1931-2015). Nurseryman, breeder and visionary landscape gardener, he liked to create gardens that expressed all the diversity of roses (species roses, old and modern, rambling or otherwise, rose bushes, climbing and trailing, etc.) to which he added a profusion of perennials. This was with the aim of achieving an ecological balance conducive to the health of the roses, without using synthetic chemicals or phytosanitary treatments.

16 flowerbeds, 112 varieties and over 1,000 roses are required for the design of this garden, which will be planted from March 2021 onwards.
The company “Les Roses anciennes André Eve” is making a generous contribution of 300 plants, but the cost remains high: €50,000, including the supply of plants and materials, labour costs and investment in equipment.
