Monuments in Film
Exhibition at the Conciergerie (Paris)
From 29 October 2010 to 13 February 2011
Since the very first motion pictures, French chateaux, cathedrals
and architecture from throughout history have starred on the
silver screen. «On location» or reproduced in the film studio,
sharing the limelight with the biggest stars, the jewels of our
architectural heritage have inspired film-makers from Georges
Méliès to Walt Disney, Éric Rohmer to Sofia Coppola.
On the initiative of the Centre des monuments nationaux, this
exhibition is a first tribute to them. The great vaulted hall of the
Conciergerie has been turned into a film set to receive visitors as
they flit between models and recreated decors, costumes and accessories,
photos and original posters, rare documents and film
clips that provide a dazzling glimpse of the close ties between
these monuments and the film world.
This exhibition is the cornerstone of the nationwide celebration,
“Monuments et Cinéma”, dedicated to the cinematic art and
organised by the Centre des monuments nationaux in 2010.

Merci
